The Joint Task Force (JTF) Friday Maiduguri foiled another attempt by the Boko Haram sect to cause mayhem in the town as they dispersed their gathering at a notorious part of the town.
It was gathered that the group were already gathered at the Abbaganaram part of the metropolis, which is noted for the deadliest of confrontation between the sect and the military, to plan their strategies and subsequently move to disrupt the peace of the town before they were dispersed by military men who acted on a tip-off.
The military men it was learnt engaged the sect members in gun battle that led to the killing of two men and made the residents of the area to scamper for safety.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the JTF, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa said some men suspected to be members of the sect were seen at place believed to be their meeting point beside the NNPC filing station at Abbaganaram within the metropolis at about 12 O’clock yesterday.
Musa in a statement said the JTF troops went to the area to burst the Boko Haram alleged meeting, where it is believed they plan to move to cause mayhem, following a tip off.
He said: “Following a tip off, the JTF Operation Restore Order 1 attacked Boko Haram terrorists’ meeting point at Abbaganaram in Maiduguri metropolis just by the side of NNPC filing station where they were said to be gathering with a view to cause mayhem in the city. On sighting JTF troops, they attempted to escape with one of them sporadically shooting at the troops’ direction.
“In an exchange of fire two were shot dead, one arrested while two AK 47 rifles with 12 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and a nokia handset were recovered,” the spokesman of the JTF said.
