Tragedy struck in Lagos on Wednesday, July 1, when a boat carrying 14 students capsized.

According to National Emergency Management Agency, corpses of the six victims have been brought out from the river, while the rest are still being searched for.

The agency said the ill-fated boat was travelling from Ojo to Irewe when the tragedy occurred at 8am.

NEMA South-West Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ibrahim Familoye, who confirmed the incident, said; “Yes, it is true. NEMA has just been alerted of a boat mishap that involved 14 school children who were being conveyed across Ojo to Irewe jetty. Six children are yet to be recovered. Search will continue tomorrow.”
