30 prisoners freed as Boko Haram attacks DSS office in Kogi

Islamic terrorist sect, Boko Haram, carried out a brazen attack on the Kogi state office of the Directorate of State Service on Friday night.

While four people, including an anti-riot policeman, were reportedly killed during the attack, not less than 30 detained inmates were freed by the suspected insurgents.

Upon gaining entrance into the DSS office located along Hassan Katsina Road, Lokoja, the insurgents went straight to the cell and released all suspects kept there.

The gunmen were said to have attacked the DSS office with sophisticated weapons, which they used in overwhelming the DSS officials.

This prompted a Deputy Director of the agency, to put out a distress call for backup to the police at about 10:40pm.

Patrol teams made up of soldiers and policemen were later drafted to the DSS office and they got into a gunfight with the insurgents for over seven hours.

The security operatives would eventually outgun the insurgents and some of them fled into the bush.
