Boko Haram abduct over 400 women and children in Borno

by Panshak Ibrahim

Barely 4 days to the presidential election, Boko Haram militants have reportedly kidnapped over 400 women and children from Damasak in Borno state.

The town was recaptured from Boko Haram by troops from Niger and Chad earlier this month.

According to Reuters, residents disclosed the kidnapping on Tuesday, March 24, there is, however, no official confirmation on the exact figure.

A trader in the town, Souleymane Ali told Reuters that: “They (insurgents) took 506 young women and children (in Damasak). They killed about 50 of them before leaving. We don’t know if they killed others after leaving, but they took the rest with them.”

Ali would also reveal that his wife and three of his daughters were among those taken by the insurgents. “Two of them were supposed to get married this year. (Boko Haram) said ‘They are slaves so we’re taking them because they belong to us.'”
