At least 25 people have died at the hands of suspected Islamist group, Boko Haram in a remote town at Ganye in Adamawa State along Nigeria’s border with Cameroon.

The attack which was believed to have started on Friday March 22 also included the release of 120 prison inmates by the suspected sect.

The incidence was referred to as a series of gun and bomb attacks by gunmen carrying out four simultaneous assaults in the area, opening fire on a bar, a bank, a prisoner warder and separately attacking a prison, Mohammed Ibrahim, police spokesman for Adamawa police command said.

“Twenty-five people were killed in four different simultaneous attacks by gunmen in Ganye,” he said.

According to Ganye, members of Boko Haram were the prime suspects. Kano State police spokesman, Magaji Majiya also confirmed that three bombs exploded in Kano on Saturday, one of which was a suicide attack that only killed the bombers.

There was however another remote control bomb that was aimed at a joint military and police checkpoint wounded several police and a gun attack in Dakata killed one person on Saturday, Majiya said.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the attacks.
