Boko Haram terrorists kill five Nigerian soldiers

Authorities in the Nigerian military said on Tuesday that five of their men battling the terrorist sect, Boko Haram in the north-east were killed by the sect in an  ambush during an assault on the terrorists’ enclaves in Sambisa forests and surrounding locations.

“Operational activities around Wala, Gwoza, Pulka and environs have been intensified. Encounters resulting from air and land strikes and an ambush of troops on patrols in the area have resulted in the death of scores of terrorists and loss of 5 soldiers including an officer,” Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade said in a statement. JAMB says over 1.5m candidates to write UTME

The 2014  Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be written by one million, six hundred and six thousand, seven hundred and fifty-three (1,606,753) candidates.

The examination which will end on the May 17 will take place in three hundred and ninety-two (392) examination towns in Nigeria and seven (7) foreign centres.

Registrar/Chief Executive of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, (JAMB), Prof. Dibu Ojerinde who disclosed this on Tuesday revealed that only 35 percent  out of the one million, seven hundred and thirty-five thousand, eight hundred and ninety-two (1, 735, 892) who sat for the 2013 UTME secured admissions in Nigerian universities. Fani-Kayode visits Jonathan at Villa

The former Minister of Aviation and a major critic of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration,Femi Fani-Koyode Tuesday met with the President behind closed-doors at the Presidential Villa.

At the end of the visit, he declined to give details of his discussions with the President while speaking with State House correspondents.

He said: “This is a presidential villa, the president is a president of Nigeria. Every single person in this country that is a Nigerian is entitled to come here from time to time, when the doors are open to come and pay their respect to the wonderful people that are here. Driver slaps politician during campaign over ‘unfulfilled electoral promises’

The leader of India’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Arvind Kejriwal was on Tuesday slapped by an auto-rickshaw driver while campaigning.

Kejriwal was in an open jeep in north Delhi when the man reached up and struck him hard on his left cheek. The assailant was immediately attacked by AAP supporters and later admitted to hospital. Read more…..

FRSC to reintroduce traffic reflector

THE Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, says plans are underway for reintroduction of the traffic retroflective jacket for all motorists across the country. Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the FRSC, Mr. Osita Chidoka, disclosed this at the flag off of a two day nationwide worldwide workshop on defensive driving techniques organised in Abuja.

He said the implementation of the traffic reflector was put on hold in the past following the myriads of petitions that opposed its earlier introduction but after the approval of same reflector by the World Road Safety Organization, the FRSC is now working on the possibility of its reintroduction and implementation in Nigeria.
