How Boko Haram insurgents got killed by their ‘own land mines’

In a classic case of digging a pit and falling into it, the remnants of the fleeing Boko Haram terrorists in Kumala, Borno state drove their getaway vehicle into one of the land mines they had buried in wait for Nigerian soldiers.

The soldiers of the 81 Battalion and 251 Task Force Battalion of 25 Task Force Brigade who were in hot pursuit of the terrorists, watched as the fleeing vehicle went up in a ball of flames to the death of the terrorists.

The vehicle, which was fitted with an Anti-Aircraft Gun, was reported to have had two occupants.

Before the mine incident, some Boko Haram terrorists had ambushed fighting patrol elements of 25 Task Force Brigade but they were repelled by the soldiers.

After clearing the ambush, the soldiers decided to explore further off Damboa road from Kumala.

Some of the weapons recovered in the operation, include 1 General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), 2 AK-47 Assault Rifles as well as one Boko Haram terrorists’ flag, 6 primed IEDs, Anti-Aircraft Gun links, 43 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition and a mobile telephone handset.
