Following the twin explosion which occured at a crowded market on Tuesday, the Borno State government has disclosed the number and condition of the casualties involved.

According to Dr. Salisu Kwaya Bura, the Executive Secretary, Hospital Management Board, 54 victims were admitted at the State Specialist Hospital, 14 were critically injured, while 20 have been discharged.

Bura disclosed this figure during Governor Kashim Shettima’s visit to the victims at the hospital in Maiduguri.

He said; “14 critically injured victims have been referred to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for proper treatment, while 20 have been discharged.”

The Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Sandar, also stated that 24 bodies were brought to the hospital.

But hospital sources disclosed that the casualty figure was higher as some bodies were shattered beyond recognition.

Governor Shettima, who looked visibly disturbed by the sheer callousness of the attack questioned the motive of the terrorists wondering “why they picked poor traders and children as targets.”

A source at the UMTH who pleaded anonymity, said over 40 corpses were brought to the hospital.

YNaija had earlier today reported the blast which ripped through a market in Maiduguri killing scores of innocent traders.
