by James Sambo

An explosion has killed five people in a bus station in Azare, Bauchi state.

According to Bauchi state Police which confirmed the incident, the bombing occurred in Azare at about 9:45 pm on the night of Wednesday, 22 October.

A resident of the area, Musa Babale told the AFP news agency that the blast shook buildings and sent residents running helter skelter.

He said, “The whole place was a mess”, while adding that locals were lucky that the blast went off late at night, as opposed to it going off earlier in the evening when the station is packed with commuters, which would have meant a higher death toll.

Bauchi police spokesman, Mohammed Haruna said that the blast killed five people, burning them beyond recognition, while 12 others were injured.

Despite the police not disclosing the nature of the explosives used, witnesses around the area say the bomb was placed in a parked car and detonated remotely.
