Box-office bits: 'Dolphin Tale' seizes top spot

by Wilfred Okiche

Warner Brothers’ feel good drama ‘Dolphin Tale’ moved up to number 1 position on the box-office charts this weekend after taking in a decent 14.2million. After only ten days, the family friendly tale has recovered its $37million budget. Brad Pitt’s baseball movie ‘Moneyball’ came in second place with a $12.5million gross.

Disney’s technologically enhanced ‘The Lion King 3D’ ended its two week reign atop the charts and has added $79.7million in its three weeks of release to the total domestic grosses making the animated film currently the 10th most successful film in the U.S.

Other new releases that dented the charts include: ‘50/50’, a cancer drama starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in fourth place. ‘Dream House’ starring newlyweds Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz entered at a disappointing sixth place and the Anna Faris romantic comedy ‘What’s your Number’ finished at number eight.
