The Deji of Akure, paramount ruler of Akure kingdom is dead.

Oba Adebiyi Adesida reportedly died in the early hours of Sunday after suffering health complications due to an unknown illness.

The monarch was said to have died in his palace around 4am today after palace officials tried but failed to revive him after his health condition suddenly worsened.

A family source revealed that Oba Adesida last attended a public function in Lagos where he celebrated the marriage ceremony of his son,  Adetunji Oluwagbemiga two weekends ago.

When SaharaReporters called a source in the palace he said in a local dialect “Oba ti w’aja’ meaning the ‘the King is gone’.

The monarch who was 63 years old ascended the throne on August 12, 2013 after he was recalled from the United Kingdom to take the place of the former Deji who was dethroned for abusing his wife.

Palace sources have confirmed the Deji’s death but added that such announcement could only be made after seven days in accordance with tradition.
