Nigeria and #BokoHaram reach ceasefire agreement (UPDATED)

by Azubuike Azikiwe

Reports reaching us indicate that Hassan Tukur, the President’s Principal Private Secretary, who was in a meeting with Boko Haram representative, Danladi Ahmadu and the president of Chad, Idris Deby in Saudi Arabia have reached a ceasefire agreement. Already, the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, has ordered the service chiefs to comply with cease fire agreement.

Both sides were reportedly having talks over the release of more than 200 schoolgirls abducted by the group in Chibok, Borno state, on April 14.

Since that abduction, Boko Haram stepped up its campaign and has unleashed a reign of terror in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, including seizing some territory. The army had rallied in recent weeks and appeared to be on the front-foot in the battle before these negotiations began.

  1. Truth be told that this is unacceptable. Ceasefire meaning what? A war which boko haram started on their own, claiming innocent lives and when they started losing the fight which of cos would happen in the end there is suddenly a ceasefire??? The blood of all the innocent blood shed during this period will never leave them. It will hunt them till justice is served.

  2. All these are just for the forth coming elections, how selfish and wicked men’s heart are , why did it has to take that long , if those children were of politician would they have waited that long , watchout as they use these for election campaign. God bless Nigeria and save us from completely destroying ourselves
