With millions of users on social media calling for the Nigerian Federal government to rescue about 276 schoolgirls abducted by men suspected to be members of the deadly Boko Haram Islamic sect in Borno, the #BringBackOurGirls campaign is arguably the most successful civil engagement campaign ever.

Local and international celebrities like Wyclef Jean, Keri Hilson, Mary J Blige, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Angelina Jolie, Puff Daddy, Banky W, Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy, 2face Idibia and many others have thrown their support behind the campaign with long-reaching effects.

Today, Tumblr, a microblogging platform and social networking website founded by David Karp and owned by Yahoo! Inc. have joined others in calling for the release of the innocent girls with a picture of protesting Chibok mothers on the site’s log-in page. This is to draw even greater attention to the urgent necessity in bringing back the missing girls safe and sound to their loved ones.

President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed his commitment in rescuing the girls by accepting the offer of the United States to assist the military in fishing out the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

It has been 22 days after the girls’ kidnap with their whereabouts yet unknown.
