Work begins on 2017 budget, even as 2016 budget remains unsigned

In a bid to avoid the crisis that trailed the 2016 budget, the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, on Friday, disclosed that it has started to prepare the 2017 budget.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Director of Information in the ministry, Charles Dafe.

The Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, was said to have made known this known while addressing the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria.

The minister also said the federal government has also began work on the Medium Term 2016-2020 Development Programme to achieve sustainable economic development.

Ahmed also called on the association to assist the Buhari administration in fighting corruption and also to build the capacity of the ministry staff on how to apply Zero-Based Budgeting (ZBB) application.

She further stated that the administration will be transparent and accountable to Nigerians so as to fulfill its promise of change to the country.

“As accountants, we can resist corruption, block illegal releases; we need to start from ourselves; we must uphold the tenets of our profession and make ourselves clean and accountable always.”

“Our administration came on a change mantra; we shall be transparent and accountable to all Nigerians.”
