Buhari orders reinstatement of retired General, whose troops shot at him

President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed the Nigerian Army to reinstate Major General Ahmed Muhammed, with immediate effect.

Major General Muhammed is the former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 7th Division of the Army, Maiduguri, Borno State who was attacked by soldiers, who shot at his vehicle in September 2014.

Mohammed was at the receiving end of the mutiny which took place at the Maimalari Barracks in Borno following a violent protest by soldiers.

The troops were said to have complained about non-payments of entitlements and inadequate weapons to effectively combat the Boko Haram menace.

The retired GOC’s vehicle was reportedly shot at during the mutiny but he was lucky to escape unscathed.

Mohammed was subsequently recalled to the military headquarters in Abuja and eventually retired.

15 months after that incident, the former GOC has now been recalled and is awaiting posting by the Army headquarters.
