Is Buhari planning to replace recently-appointed NNPC boss?

There is speculation that President Muhammadu Buhari will appoint another Group Managing Director for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation if the senate approves Ibe Kachikwu’s ministerial nomination.

According to TheCable, presidential sources revealed that Buhari is not entirely at ease with the actions and performance of Kachikwu at NNPC, thus far.

The report states that Kachikwu allegedly gave preference to the settlement of debts owed by ExxonMobil, to NNPC.

It is also believed that Kachikwu is no longer on the same page with President Buhari, regarding the sale of the nation’s refineries.

“You can say Buhari was misled into appointing Kachikwu as NNPC GMD,” a presidency source was quoted to have said.

As a result of this, the President is said to be inclined to make Kachikwu minister of state for petroleum resources while one of NNPC’s Group Executive Directors, Maikanti Baru, will take over from him.
