Buhari will be inheriting a broken economy – El-Rufai paints a gloomy picture

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, says Muhammadu Buhari, the party’s presidential candidate, stands to inherit a damaged economy, provided he is elected as president during next month’s elections.

El-Rufai also said he would meet a bankrupt state, if he wins the gubernatorial election of Kaduna state on February 28.

The former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, made the statement on Tuesday, January 27, during an Organised Private Sector’s interactive session in Kaduna.

El-Rufai said Kaduna state had been bedeviled with domestic liabilities totalling N106bn, adding that N700bn had been wasted in the past seven years in the state, a situation he described as most unfortunate.

He noted that the nation is currently passing through an economic crisis as it was in 1983, saying: “General Muhammadu Buhari will be inheriting a broken economy like he did in 1983, just like I am going to likely inherit a bankrupt state when we take over power.”

El-Rufai added that if elected in the February 28 governorship poll, he would develop human capital, ensure a free and compulsory education for the first nine years for all children in the state as well as fix schools and improve teachers’ training, among other things.
