Buratai, Army chief’s village attacked by Boko Haram [DETAILS]

The hometown of Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai, was attacked by Boko Haram insurgents in the wee hours of Saturday.

The attack led to a firefight between the insurgents and soldiers as residents of Buratai fled to other villages.

A resident of the nearby hamlet of Miringa, Abubakar Umar disclosed to to AFP that the clash between the troops and insurgents began at about 5:00 am.

Residents of Buratai were reported to have fled to Miringa, where they have taken shelter in a primary school.

“At one point we could hear explosions coming from the direction of Buratai,” he said.

According to another resident, Shitu Ayuba said: “Nine trucks conveying soldiers and another four carrying local hunters drove through our village towards Buratai and from what we hear more are on their way.”

It remains unknown the level of civilian, troop and insurgent casualties from the attack.
