Burglar returned to rape woman two days after raiding home for laptop, mobile phone and bank cards

Jailed: Joseph Innocent Mwaura

A traumatised woman has told how a thief who burgled her house broke back in two nights later and snarled: “I’m going to rape you.”

Flight attendant Daniela Vinci, 40, who has waived her right to anonymity, was asleep when Joseph Innocent Mwaura, 19, and an accomplice raided her home and stole her laptop, mobile phone and bank cards.

She changed the locks but Mwaura – who had seen photos of his victim on her laptop – returned.

Daniela was sleeping naked in bed when she was woken with a torch being shone in her face.

She said: “I immediately realised I was in serious danger and knew instinctively it was the same man who had stolen my belongings two days before.

“I asked him ‘what do you want?’. There was a terrible pause before he replied menacingly ‘I want your t*ts’.

“The realisation that he planned to rape me was truly horrific.”

She went on: “I can’t stop thinking about what happened. It haunts me day and night.”

Daniela said despite being petrified during the attack she tried to calm Mwaura and persuaded him to go downstairs. When he grabbed a knife in the kitchen, she tried to flee out of the front door. Mwaura grabbed her by the throat then made the warning that he was going to rape her.

She said: “I screamed and screamed. He pushed the knife against my throat and spat ‘if you do that again I’m going to kill you’.”

But Daniela, of Slough, Berks, fought back. She said: “I rolled on top of him and grabbed the knife. I put it to his throat and screamed ‘get out now’.

“He shouted ‘bitch’ and punched me hard in my left eye. But then he grabbed the knife and ran.”

Mwaura, of Slough, was jailed for seven years and four months after being convicted of sexual assault and trespassing with intent to rape.

As the victim of a sex crime, Daniela had the right to remain anonymous. She said the attack in April has frequently left her unable to sleep “because I’m too scared to shut my eyes”.
