Can Papa Eagles beat Argentina today? – and more, in today’s news round-up with Cheta Nwanze

Permit me to fall of my chair for a bit in almost derisive laughter as this had the same impact as someone telling me that Papa Eagles will thrash some footballers led by Leo Messi this evening.

For those of us in Lagos, it pissed rain all night long, has continued until this morning, and appears not ready to stop. Cue, traffic chaos as there will be flooding all over this great city of ours. But nothing to worry about, we will get some flood relief, from the FG, at least two years from now.

In the meanwhile, we must be thankful, because we have the men-in-black to help us take care of the chaos, and why not? They are after all, the best in the world. Permit me to fall of my chair for a bit in almost derisive laughter as this had the same impact as someone telling me that Papa Eagles will thrash some footballers led by Leo Messi this evening.

But on a more serious note, looking at the platform on which that slaphappy claim was made puts a lot of things into perspective. You see, on the same day, and at the same venue, someone, who we are paying the grand total of N12 millions and some, told us that the solution to all of Nigeria’s image problems, is to change our name to Naijiria. To be honest, I think the good Dr Okali was definitely pissing away the night before with two friends, Jack and Johnny!

Bits and Bobs

Yesterday, one was celebrating a potential end to party crossovers. Today, the Wigs have told us that they can continue for the foreseeable future. Speaking of the foreseeable future, and that $8 millions that I keep complaining about will remain in limbo for that long, while Chiemezie in Alaba will soon smile to the bank. Anyone who tries to remove the Prez will face the wrath of the Ijaw people. He’s their son after all. Meanwhile the outgoing shokoto of the Fountain of Knowledge is under pressure to return to the old way of doing things. So far he’s taken the high moral ground.

I believe Fayose, who is a more popular candidate but NOT BETTER than Fayemi, won the polls due to pragmatic politics. I am equally shocked that Ekiti people who pride themselves as highly intellectual will choose to elect Fayose! Well, it is now crystal clear to me that the people deserve the kind of leaders they get!
