Patience Jonathan is a “woman of peace” – don’t ever forget this

by Iyobosa Omoregie

Just in case it somehow skipped your mind, the First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan [a.k.a Mama Peace] is a woman of peace.

According to her, the insinuation that she supports and/or prompts violence is way off the mark.

For the life of her, Mrs. Jonathan can’t understand why her ‘stoning’ comments is being perceived as eliciting violence. Beats us too.

The All Progressives Congress had reported her to the International Criminal Court for allegedly asking supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party to stone anyone canvassing for change, the APC slogan, during a campaign rally in Calabar, Cross River state.

However, the First Lady spoke through her media aide, Ayo Adewuyi, saying, as a symbol of peace, the First Lady cannot be associated with electoral violence.

Adewuyi said: “The only thing we can say from here is that Dame Patience Jonathan is a woman of peace that can never in any way be identified with violence before, during and after elections.”

“You do not expect somebody who is the President of African First Ladies to be promoting violence.”

On Mama Peace’s readiness to respond to the ICC if summoned about the matter, Adewuyi said: “They are just notifying. The case is not yet in ICC. They are entitled to their opinions and actions. We are not going to be dragged into any argument with them.”
