4 women arrested for mixing palmwine with CASSAVA in Imo

About 9 persons have been arrested in Imo State after an ambush by the state’s police command, for allegedly making money from adulterated palm wine.

The arrest was announced yesterday, by the state commissioner of police, Muhammad Katsina.

While parading the suspects before newsmen, Katsina said they were arrested after a tip-off by some of the people in that area.

Leadership reports:

“This people have been giving dangerous substances to innocent masses to consume. They mix the fermented cassava with saccharine and other sweet flavours and sell them in the market, “ Katsina said.

All nine suspects were said to be natives of Ata in Ikeduru local government area of Imo State.

They include Mrs Aita Okereke, Mrs Ngozi Agi, Mrs Eke Gift, Mrs Queeneth Omeka, Mr Charles Eke, Mr Oliver Agim, Mr Ugochukwu Obed, Mr Ikechukwu Omeka and Mr Timothy Okereke.

President of Ata Patriots, Mr Lambert Nnorom, said that when the reports of the hazards of the fake palm wine production in Ata community became unbearable, his association invited the police to nab the suspects.
