A jealous lover has been arrested by police in Ondo after it was alleged that he had killed a man his girlfriend had been cheating with.

Olusola Akinmiwasi, 35, is said to have attacked one Oriola Akinduko with a machete yesterday and inflicted a deep cut on his head which subsequently resulted in his death.

The accused is said to have barged into a room where his girlfriend and the deceased were in the act of sexual intercourse, at about 1am, and begun his assault.

The unidentified lady survived the incident but Oriola later succumbed to his injuries.

According to a report made at the Idanre Police Station by Oriola’s elder brother, Kola Akinduko, the incident occurred at the residence of a woman known as Aina Afolabi, at Opa Road in Idanre.

Oriola and Aina were said to be making love around 1am on Monday when Akinmiwasi burst into their room through a window with a machete, inflicting deep cuts on them.

Akinmiwasi was reported to have received information that Oriola was in the house of the lady who he was apparently dating.

Although help came on time, the victims bled profusely, leading to the death of Oriola while he was being rushed to a nearby hospital.

Police Public Relations Officer, Wole Ogodo, who confirmed the incident, said the corpse had been deposited in the mortuary of the Idanre General Hospital, while Aina was receiving treatment at the same hospital.

He said, “We suspect that both men were dating the lady and someone had informed the suspect that Oriola was in that house which led to the attack.

“Oriola died on the way to the hospital because he had a deep cut on his his head, his corpse has been deposited at the mortuary while the woman is receiving treatment.”

Ogodo said the suspect had been arrested and the case transferred to the S Criminal Investgation Department for further investigation.
