Caught in the act: Fake soldier arrested in Port Harcourt (PICTURED)

Samuel Ita-Ekeng, a 30-year-old man living in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has been arrested four days ago by a group of security men on Ikwerre road of the city for posing as a Nigerian soldier.

Ita-Ekeng was reportedly dressed in full military camouflage when he was arrested.

According to Ahmad Mohammed, the Rivers State police spokesman, Ita-Ekeng was arrested for using a fake identity to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

According to Mohammad: “The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public about the arrest of a fake soldier, Samuel Ita Ekeng.

“He was arrested while fully dressed in military camouflage. He goes about parading himself to be an Army (officer), harassing and extorting money from unsuspecting citizens.”

The state police spokesman disclosed that one green guide paramilitary identification card, Nigeria Merchant identity card and three camouflage shorts were among the items recovered from the suspected impersonator.

“Items recovered from him include one green guide Nigeria paramilitary identity card, one Nigeria merchant identity card bearing his name, three camouflage shorts, one military camouflage T-shirt, one military jacket, a pair of military trousers and one military cap,” Mohammad stated.

Mohammed assured that the alleged impersonator will be charged to court as soon as possible.

“The courts are not working now, but we intend to charge them to court as soon as possible. Members of the public are hereby advised to be wary of such characters and report any person wearing uniform of any of the security agencies they reasonably suspected to be fake one to the nearest police station,” he said.
