More banks linked with Diezani’s $115 million to be investigated

The Central Bank of Nigeria has started investigating the banks indicted in the $115 million scandal anchored on former minister of petroleum, Allison Diezani.

A statement by the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Department of CBN, Isaac Okorafor, revealed that the apex bank informed all customers of banks, stakeholders, and the general public that it is working with law enforcement authorities in the investigation of some banks.

The bank said: “CBN would like to reiterate that financial system stability remains a priority and therefore, assures customers and stakeholders that it would not allow the banking system to be used as a conduit for any illicit transactions.

“Some of these investigations are routine and only relate to isolated transactions, therefore it is important to state that the safety and soundness of the Nigerian banking industry remain strong.”
