We can't wait! Nobel peace prize winner from Liberia, Leymah Gbowee visits Nigeria

In celebrating excellence and achievement in Africa, six Nigerian developmental organisations are set to host Leymah Gbowee, 2011 Nobel Prize Winner, on 2 December.

GOTNI, African Women Development (AWDF), WIPSEN Africa, International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), Women in Management and Business (WIMBIZ), African Women and Youth Development are coming together next month to recognise the efforts of Mrs Gbowee.

Mrs Gbowee, one of the three 2011 Nobel Peace Prize recipients, is an African peace activist responsible for organising a women’s movement that brought an end to the second Liberian Civil War in 2003.

The event, which puts the spotlight on the living African hero, is open to the registered public, especially young people who are driven and passionate about making a difference.

This event will be hosted by  Bisi Fayemi, First Lady of Ekiti State; Toyin Saraki, former First Lady of Kwara State; Senator Daisy Danjuma, Thelma Ekiyor, Executive Director of TY Danjuma Foundation and Co-Founder, WIPSEN Africa; with the First Lady of Lagos State, Abimbola Fashola as Special Guest of Honour.

The programme:

Event 1: Mrs Gbowee would be speaking to a selected group of youth leaders across Nigeria at a public lecture themed: “Making a Difference in Crisis: An inspiration for Young Africans”.
Date: Friday, 2 December, 2011
Venue: The Incubator, by City of David, Victoria Island Lagos.
Time: 10am – 2pm.

Event 2: “An Evening with the 2011 Nobel Prize Winner: Leymah Gbowee”
Theme: “The Journey to Nobel” (Q&A, Award winning documentary and book signing)
Date:     Friday 2 December, 2011
Venue: The Wheatbaker Hotel, 4 Onitolo Street, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Time: 6pm
