The Abuja Chamber of Commerce disagrees with the NLC

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has reached out to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to desist from its plan to go on a nationwide strike action on Wednesday, May 18.

The NLC has declared its intention to shut the country down on Wednesday if the government fails to meet with it on Tuesday, May 17 for talks about the reversal of the recent removal of petrol subsidy.

The ACCI, in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, May 15 by its President, Tony Ejinkeonye called on the NLC to suspend its plans so that the nation’s economy doesn’t suffer any more descent.

The president said: “ACCI is calling on the NLC to shelve their planned nationwide strike.”

“That is why, we are asking labour and indeed all Nigerians to support the government at this time.

“We in ACCI, made it clear over the years that it’s impossible for Government to continue subsidy payments on petrol.”
