Militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers has given an ultimatum to all oil companies to leave the Delta region or face debilitating attack, but no one has suffered worse than Chevron since the attacks re-emerged.
They promised to hit them from this week, and today’s attack confirms that promise.
Which makes it important to recall their promise given on May 4, after blowing Chevron’s valve platform in Warri SouthWest Local Government.
“When we blew the Chevron Valve Platform, it resulted in total blackout in the Escravos Tank farm for more than three hours. If we (Niger Delta Avengers) can do it, just know that we are capable of bringing down your tank farm if you continue with repair works on the blown valve platform,” the group said in a statement.
“The contracting firm doing the repair works, know that your facilities and staff will be our first casualties.
“Despite the heavy presence of Military in the creeks, it will not stop us from carrying out our operations. We are ready to destroy more pipelines, we won’t only destroy pipelines, but will bring the fight to your tank farm and your Headquarters in Lekki, Lagos.”
President Muhammadu Buhari promised oil companies again last week that he protect them against the militants. That promise is now ringing hollow.
