Suspected Imo child-stealing gang finally caught

Child Trafficking

A syndicate which specialised in the stealing and trafficking of children have been arrested by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Police Command.

The suspects, Kelechi Nwogu (22 years) and Ebuka Ibe also (22 years), were reportedly arrested following a distress call by a resident of the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Austin Evbakhavbokum, said this while briefing journalists on some of the arrests recorded by his command.

The two suspects, according to the CP, abducted two siblings ─ Chukwuma Ezeribe (4 years) and Chigozie Ezeribe ( 3 years) ─ who were returning from school at Amazu Amato, in the Orsu Local Government Area.

The CP said, “The two victims were being conveyed by the suspects to a prospective buyer before policemen chased and arrested them. When a search was conducted in the house of one of the suspects, Ebuka Ibe, the following exhibits were recovered: One locally-made revolver pistol with one round of live ammunition, one locally-made shotgun, one locally-made single-barrelled gun and two big iron cutters.”
