Chinese man turns green after eating river snails

He Yong, 24, from Zuny in southern China was hospitalised when his skin turned green and he suffered abdominal pains. He contracted a parasitic infection from eating river snails. He has been released and is doing well, acording to reports.

This Chinese man’s unusual coloring wasn’t caused by envy.

He Yong, 24, turned green from a parasitic infection he got from eating too many river snails. Yong complained of constant abdominal pain for two months, but he didn’t seek medical help until the whites of his eyes as well as his skin started changing color. The young man visited several hospitals before he was correctly diagnosed at the Guizhou Aerospace Hospital.

“I was scared of my own reflection, I looked like the Incredible Hulk,” he told Guiyang Evening News.

Doctors determined that Yong was suffering from an infection caused by liver fluke, a type of flatworm parasite. His unusual coloring was the result of cholestasis, which is a condition where the flow of bile from the liver is blocked, according to Medical Daily. Other symptoms of liver fluke include fatigue, poor appetite and abdominal pain.

Yong admitted that snails were a steady part of his diet,

“Usually I like to eat fried river snails, especially in the past few months, where I’ve been eating one plate every night,” Yong he said.

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed Yong’s strange case, according to Want China Times.

Yong was treated and released from the hospital in late August. The CCDC organization reportedly kept the four flukes that were removed from his common bile duct and plans to study them.
