‘People will not come into the church… if the economy fails to improve’ – Ambode

#30Days30Voices

The Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Monday, said the attendance rate in Nigerian churches is heavily dependent on the economy of the nation.

Consequently, he urged religious leaders to pray fervently for the country, so that the welfare of the people who attend churches can improve.

The governor spoke on Monday while declaring open the 33rd synod of the Diocese of Lagos, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), tagged, ‘The Marks of the Church’ at Our Saviour’s Church, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

Ambode said: “Nigeria is in dire need of God’s prosperity and blessing and there are no other people that can do that (pray) for us except the church.”

“It is clear that the welfare of the people in the church will improve when the country’s economy improves. One can imagine that there is a correlation between the economy and the church, and if the economy prospers, it is very clear that the welfare of people in the church will also improve.”

“So, it is in the best interest of those of us who are in government to ensure that the economy prospers or else people will not come into the church.”
