Celebrated author Binyavanga Wainaina, CNN’s business correspondent Zain Asher and Tutu Agyare – the first African to trade on the London Stock Exchange – are just some of the inspirational speakers at this year’s TEDxEuston on Saturday 6 December 2014.

Now in its fifth year, TEDxEuston– an offshoot of TED Talks – is a global landmark occasion for Africans, and those with a passion for the continent. Each year residents across Africa, the USA, the UK and other European countries travel to London to attend this inspirational day. This celebration of Africa’s finest has historically drawn some of the world’s most recognised names, including author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and the late BBC
broadcaster Komla Dumor.

Promising to deliver the same standard of excellence and diversity as seen in previous years, TEDxEuston2014 has an array of Africa’s talented men and women speaking and performing at this December’s conference. The theme of TEDxEuston2014 draws on the words of Ghana’s first president Kwame Nkrumah, who said: “we face neither east nor west, we face forward”. Speakers and performers will consider how Africans standing together and facing forward can achieve even greater prominence and success for across the continent.

Co-founder of TEDxEuston and TED fellow, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu said:

“TEDxEuston is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year and promises to be just as, if not more, successful than previous years. We’re always excited at the fact that such an intelligent and varied range of people who love Africa attend these talks to share ideas and to inspire each other to make Africa greater than it was yesterday.”

Explaining the theme of ‘Facing Forward’, co-founder Dr Ike Anya said: “We selected the famous and inspiring quote from one of Africa’s father figures the great Kwame Nkrumah because we felt that it had renewed resonance with Africa today, caught at a crossroads.”
