Confusion as @PoliceNG tear gas #OurNASS

by James Sambo

Members of the police have used tear gas in the National Assembly complex as the House of Representatives resumed sitting today at the behest of the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal.

The speaker had earlier been denied entry into the complex by security operatives, but was smuggled inside by his loyalists.

YNaija reached out via telephone to the Personal Assistant of the Speaker, Olu Jacobs, who described the situation as very unfortunate.

Jacobs said: ” As I am speaking to you, my eyes is watery. They threw tear gas directly at the lawmakers. Its a monumental tragedy, and the height of impunity.”

“Police officers stood guard and refused to allow us access into the complex, saying they were responding to directives from above. Even when the Speaker approached the officers and said,”My name is Aminu Tambuwal, let me inside”, they refused,” he added.

Update

The Speaker of the House of Reps Aminu Tambuwal eventually gained access into the House Chamber.

Tambuwal was initially prevented from driving through the second gate after passing through the first gate of the Assembly complex.

He was smuggled into the Chamber by lawmakers, who shielded him and overpowered security operatives at the second and third gates.

The Senate President, David Mark, has ordered that the National Assembly complex be shut down till next week Tuesday, 25 November.
