A suit seeking to stop the ongoing inquest into the collapsed Synagogue building has been dismissed by a Federal High Court in Lagos.
According to the trial judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba, the suit lacked merit, hence its dismissal.
Following the 12 September collapse of a six-story building within the premises of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, a coroner’s inquest had been set up the Lagos state government to determine what led to the collapse which killed over 100 people, who were predominantly South Africans.
On 26 September, the State government constituted a coroner’s court headed by Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, to ascertain the circumstances which led to the accident.
Lagos lawyer, Mr. Olukoya Ogungbeje would however oppose the sitting of the inquest, by going to court, to seek an order restraining further inquest, pending the determination of the suit.
Respondents in the suit were the Lagos State government, the Attorney-General of the state, Mr. Ade Ipaye, and Magistrate Komolafe.
The suit has now been struck out, and the coroner’s inquest will proceed.
