A 43-year-old-man is seeking justice in court after he lost an eye during a fight at a club in Lagos.

Ganiyu Oloko, a driver living at Ojota claims he was stabbed with a piece of broken bottle when an argument broke out over the ownership of seats in the club. He didn’t see his attacker at the time but claims policemen had pointed out one Azeez Anifowose, a bus ticket seller as the culprit.

On Tuesday, Oloko told the court, “Anifowose stabbed me in the left eye with a piece of broken bottle as. There were about 12 assailants, but I know that he stabbed me in the eye.”

But defendant’s lawyer, Evelyn Obogwu, replied: “You were stabbed in the eye and the club was rowdy at around 2 am, you couldn’t have recognised who stabbed you. You had also told this court a version of the incident different from that in your statement to the police.

“Did you actually see Anifowose that day?” she reportedly asked.

Oloko replied, “After I left the hospital and I went to the police station, the Investigating Police Officer presented Anifowose to me as my attacker and I knew he was the one.”

The Punch reports:

During a hearing before Makanjuola Oshodi was told the attack allegedly took place at Joycedee Fun Court, Awolowo Way, Ikeja on June 23, 2012.

Obogwu alleged that Anifowose was being deliberarely “roped” by the club owners.

She further asked Oloko how many other suspects were presented to him for identification. Oloko answered that it was only Anifowose.

Oshodi adjourned the case
