Court rejects Moro’s application to travel abroad for medical treatment

A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Friday, rejected an application by a former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro to travel abroad for medical treatment.

In an application filed by his lawyer, Paul Erokoro, Moro urged the court to allow him travel abroad for a medical appointment.

But Justice Nnamdi Dimgba said it was too late in March to grant the application, dated December 16, 2016.

“A medical appointment for January 2017 cannot be given in March,” the judge ruled.

The judge asked Erokoro to update the application, and adjourned until March 21, 2017 for hearing of pending applications.

The court had seized the former minister’s passport as part of the bail condition granted him.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraigned Moro along with some senior officials of the ministry on 11 counts over the ill-fated Nigerian Immigration Service’s recruitment exercise in 2014.

Others on trial are a former Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia, a deputy director in the ministry, F. O Alayebami, Mahmood Ahmadu (at large), and Drexel Tech Nigeria Limited, a firm that was awarded the recruitment job.
