Court remands 2 suspects over attempted murder of Ekiti governor’s aide

A Chief Magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday remanded Oyediran Afolabi, 45, and Sunday Oluwafemi, 45, in prison for attempted murder.

Police prosecutor, Bamikole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the accused committed the offence at Irewolede Estate, Ilewa road in Ado-Ekiti, on December 20.

Olasunkanmi alleged that the accused conspired together to murder Adesokan Adedeji, the Senior Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Security.

According to a Premium Times report:

He added that the accused also had in their possession, one military berretta pistol loaded with eight rounds of ammunition at the point of arrest.

Mr. Olasunkanmi said that the offence contravened the Armed Robbery and Firearms (special provision) Act.

The pleas of the accused were not taken.

The prosecutor applied for a date of adjournment to enable him duplicate the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

Their counsel, Chris Omokhafe, also sought for a date of adjournment.

The Chief Magistrate, Simeon Ojo, remanded the duo in prison and adjourned the case to January 20, 2014 for further hearing.
