A 42-year-old man, Zaure Auta, has been sentenced to six months improsonment for stealing 34 cows.
Auta, the cow thief was arraigned before the Magistrates’ court sitting in Dutse, Abuja on Wednesday, 15 October, on a two-count charge of joint act and theft.
Auta reporetedly broke into the cattle farm of one Mr Moses Ayodele in Bwari, Abuja on 23 September, from where he carted away 34 cows valued at N3million.
According to the prosecution, the offences were contrary to Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code. Auta would, however, admit to committing the offence when the charges against him were read.
Consequently, the magistrate, Mr Chukwuemeka Nweke, gave him a 6-month jail sentence while also availing him with an option of paying a N60,000 fine.
The cows have since been retrieved from Auta and returned to the owner, Ayodele.
