A New Jersey newborn was thrown out with the trash Saturday.

Officials said a group of kids found the approximately 3 months premature boy in a trash pile behind a Jersey City building. He is breathing on his own now at Jersey City Medical Center, a spokesman said.

New Jersey’s safe haven law would have allowed the mom to leave the boy anonymously at a hospital or police station.
