Police say the suspect fled into the water after they approached him near the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego.

A suspect dived into the Pacific Ocean and swam along the coast for seven hours to avoid being arrested by cops.

Police said they approached the man, who has not yet been named, near the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego at 10 p.m. Sunday.

But he fled into the water.

The suspect screamed threats about killing officers while swimming for seven hours.

His marathon mission to duck detainment saw him swimming nearly 2.5 miles to Silver Strand Beach.

He then continued plodding up and down the water — breaking off only to scream out threats about killing officers — for seven hours.

Police, K-9 units, divers and a helicopter patrol all failed to coax him out.

It wasn't until 5 a.m. the next day that the man decided to leave the choppy sea.

He was arrested near the hotel and booked in jail. Cops believe he was under the influence.

A police spokesman told NBC the incident was “narcotics-related.”
