Staff of the campaign organization of former President, Goodluck Jonathan, have reportedly petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, over the role of the campaign’s media director, Femi Fani-Kayode, in the funds received by the team.
According to Sahara Reporters, the petitioners alleged that Fani-Kayode received N1.7 billion from former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.
Dasuki is on trial for diverting about $2.1 billion arms funds, which was disbursed to PDP politicians and associates of the last administration.
A source in the administration of former President, Goodluck Jonathan, was quoted to have disclosed to Sahara Reporters that Fani-Kayode directly received the N1.7 billion from Jonathan through Dasuki.
According to the source, Fani-Kayode was given the funds while acting as the spokesman for Goodluck Jonathan’s Presidential campaign organization.
The report states that shortly after his receiving the funds, Fani-Kayode acquired several SUVs, including one for his girlfriend, Precious Chikwendu.
An EFCC source was also quoted to have revealed that investigators traced huge amount of payments to Fani-Kayode, most of which were supposedly made in cash.
