The Council of Arewa Chiefs in Agege area of Lagos has refuted the claims that it endorsed the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Goodluck Jonathan for second term.

The group, after a meeting held at the palace of Seriki Hausawa of Agege, over the weekend, in Lagos, in a statement affirmed that they had jointly expressed their unalloyed support to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari.

The meeting was led by Sani Shuaibu, the Sardauna of Agege.

“Sani Kabiru, the acclaimed Seriki Hausa in Lagos, had last week announced the endorsement of President (Goodluck) Jonathan at the State House, Marina, after a meeting he had with the President. However, we want to tell the whole world that we are not part of the said endorsement. We rejected the endorsement. We remain committed to the victory of APC’s presidential candidate, Mohammadu Buhari and APC candidates in Lagos State,” Shuaibu said.

“The Hausa community in Lagos, especially in Agege, has enjoyed tremendous support from the government of Lagos State since the past 16 years and would like such a relationship to continue. Since the past 16 years, we have lived peacefully and witnessed tremendous support from the government of the state. We want to leverage on this and all of us are working towards achieving continuous peace in the state,” he added.
