Diezanigate: EFCC probes ex-gov Chime, arrests 2 Enugu commissioners

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two serving Enugu commissioners- Charles Egumgbe and Rita Mba for their roles in $115m (N23bn) allegedly disbursed by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

This was confirmed by the EFCC zonal head, South-East zone, Johnson Babalola during a press briefing in Enugu.

Charles Egumgbe who is the Commissioner for Water Resources was the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party campaign while Commissioner for Tourism, Rita Mba was the secretary of the campaign office in the state.

“They were detained, they made statements and they were later released on bail,” he said.

Babalola also said the anti-graft agency is still probing former governor of the state, Sullivan Chime.

Chime was alleged to have received N450m out of the N23bn disbursed by Dieziani Alison-Madueke.
