Dika Ozoemena: Why the PDP is responsible for Omisore’s loss

by Dika Ozoemena

Iyiola-Omisore (1)

While internal factors which worked against Omisore was self-inflicted, PDP, his party, is responsible for the external factors which worked against the controversial politician.

Congratulation to Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for his deserved Osun state gubernatorial election victory. He did so well to sell brand, his works & his party to the good people of the state of Osun. Osun a da ra o.

While praising Ogbeni, we ought not to ignore the gallant efforts of Senator Iyiola Omisore to wrest power & send Ogbeni back to Lagos. Omisore did his best but his best wasn’t good enough. He was certain that he will come out victorious but as it seems, it will be another four (4) long torturous years for the Ife based politician. He did well in a contest many expected of him to fail woefully. He failed but woefully he did not. He failed gallantly.

Many factors, both internal and external worked against Omisore. His campaign team consisted of individuals who put their personal interest before that of their principal, of persons who saw the recently concluded election as a means to milk money off the Ooni of Ife favorite son, of low self-esteemed individuals who came to an ignorant conclusion that Aregbesola will coast home to victory hence the need to do damage control, to reduce the defeat margin. The many sins of his campaign team includes short-changing of funds meant for inducement & mobilization of voters for personal use; Voters were induced with N1,000, such paltry sum, instead of N5,000 budgeted for voters inducement, money & materials meant for social media campaign disappeared into thin air, only to be pitied like a homeless child by a group of Social media volunteers who did their best for him, but their best wasn’t enough. The same bunch of heartless persons lied to Omisore, providing him with situational analysis of different polling units filled with lies that the devil himself would believe without doubting. Hence, Celebration the reason for celebration in Ife by PDP supporters around 10pm, after news of Omisore leading Ogbeni in poll count broke out.

“He who goes to war with a defeated mindset, will never come out victorious.”

While internal factors which worked against Omisore was self-inflicted, PDP, his party, is responsible for the external factors which worked against the controversial politician. In awar, you do not allow one of your best Generals to jump ship because of conflict of interest. Senator Isiaka Adeleke had his eyes fixed on PDP governorship ticket but the insistence on Omisore candidacy, as a pay-back for his years of loyalty & his contributions to the restructuring of PDP Osun state after defection of high level street commanders such as Peter Power (osogbo), Orimolade (okuku) & others from the party. It is either PDP national leaders underrated Adeleke Sherubawon’s influence in EDE or they are suffering from memory loss considering that Adeleke delivered EDE to President Jonathan viz 2011 Presidential election. PDP surely paid for for that because Adeleke delivered over 26,000 votes to Ogbeni Aregbesola. Imagine adding that number to Omisore’s total votes.

Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola is another Osun state PDP leader who crossed over to the party of his enemies but then, there is no permanent enemy in Politics. Politics is all about personal interest. APC leadership through strategic planning came up with a plan to “steal” votes from PDP strongholds. Odo-Otin, Oyinlola LG is a PDP stronghold, the Okuku Prince is loved by all in his local government. He teamed up with Orimolade, a very powerful APC man in Odo-Otin – and together,  they delivered 11,950 votes to APC, which is a miracle in a LG expected of PDP to defeat APC by a very big margin. Omisore is man who much was expected of, to sell himself to the people of Osun state. Sharing of gifts to influence voters choice is ok but considering the personality of his main challenger, Omisore was meant to do more to endear himself to the people of Osun.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is a political brand, a mixture of streetness & ruggedness. A man whose supporters can be likened to Hugo Chavez Chavistas. How is it possible to defeat a chavez-like personality just by sharing gifts? It’s worth knowing that Aregbesola chavistas rejected Omisore gifts.  The people of Osun state have decided. The best candidate did not win neither did the worst candidate lose. The most popular & widely accepted candidate won. The people of osun state have spoken. God bless Osun state. God bless the people of State of Osun. God bless Nigeria. To those who have come to a conclusion that Iyiola Omisore is politically dead, he is not. He got defeated by a strong politician but then, after end of Aregbe tenure come 2018, which APC individual is strong enough to challange Iyiola Omisore. None. Till then, Enyi Omo Osun e ma gba dun ishe owo yin ooo.
