Diva in concert: Photos from when Yinka Davies wowed fans in Lagos

by Eric Nwanso

Sunday, 15 May 2011 – As guests walked into the intimate setting of The Metropolitan on Kofo Abayomi, Victoria Island, they were greeted with beautiful lights, and more beautiful people gathered to enjoy the music of sultry jazz diva, Yinka Davies.

Anchored by veteran TV personality Femi Segun, the guests included dignitaries from the French, German and American Embassies, legends like Orlando Owoh Jr, Fatai Rolling Dollar, Sir Tunji Oyelana, Gbenga Ojo and Segun Odegbami, and others like Ade Bantu and Yeni Kuti.

Yinka walked in to meet her waiting audience, stunning in a sequinned neck plunging dress, greeting guests from table to table, before she took to the floor and performed with her band Five and Six, giving nothing short of a brilliant performance – songs like ‘Sura the tailor’, ‘Owo’, and her classic smash hit ‘Eko ile’ .

With friends giving glowing testimonials, and short trips down Memory Lane, ‘Black Chiffon’, her anticipated album was re-launched (the first launch was at the Federal Palace Hotel about four years ago) and then sold to guests. You can get yours at Jazzhole Ikoyi, Lagos.

Can we just say this? Yinka is a legend.
