A woman, Tunrayo Amoo, has filed for divorce from her husband Muyideen, for  allegedly  beating  her and keeping concubines.

Amoo, told the Grade ‘C’ customary court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, that her husband, a barber in their 6-year marriage was fond of beating her, sometimes to a state of unconsciousness.

According to the mother of two, her husband beat her anytime she confronted him for sleeping  around with strange women.

Nigerian Tribune reports:

The resident of Oke-Ibadan area, Ibadan, Oyo State capital, said she  caught her husband on several occasions with different ladies sitting on his laps in his shop.

The complainant’s mother, who came as a witness in court, said the defendant ignored his responsibility in the home, emphasising that they were always fighting anytime they visited her.

“Muyideen is not a responsible man. He doesn’t do what responsible men do for their families.

‘’He’s   always beating my daughter. I have witnessed this several times when they  visited  me.

‘’ I have tried my best to settle their dispute but all to avail,’’ she said.

However, Muyideen told the court that there had never been a  misunderstanding between him and his wife, but that  his wife filed the divorce suit based on the instruction of her mother.

‘She lied to me that she was going for a burial ceremony in Ilorin, but instead, she went to meet her mother.

“Some days after her departure, she called and told me she was no more  interested in our marriage.

“She embarrassed me by telling me to shut up on the phone.

“Her mother also picked the phone and  told me her daughter was no more interested in the marriage,” he stated.

Muyideen, however, told the court that his wife has not told him why he wanted a divorce saying she one confessed to his friend that she was carrying another man’s pregnancy.

Also testifying in court was the  defendant’s mother who said the complainant was a trouble maker and once poured a bucket of water on her husband in her presence.

Muyideen, who agreed to the  dissolution of  the marriage, said his wife was always packing the food they had in the house to her male friends and would, under no circumstance, have his children in her custody.

‘She is never around to care for the children. She is fond of dropping them with our neighbours while  she packs  all the food in the house to her lovers.

‘’My children will never stay with her or stay under another man’s roof. I won’t take that,” he added.

The court president, Chief Amusa Makinde, urged the couple to have a re-think on the divorce suit for the sake of the children and adjourned  the case till May 13.
