Abeke Olowolafe, a 50-year-old woman living in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, is seeking the dissolution of her 32-year-old marriage to her husband, James.
Abeke, a mother of three children, dragged her James before an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court for allegedly assaulting her publicly and calling her various unprintable names.
She accused her husband of not being supportive in taking care of their children adding that James is fond of referring to her as a promiscuous woman.
Abeke said there was a particular day her husband told her to lie-down on bed to know whether she had sex with another man.
But the respondent, James, told the court that his wife always starved him of food when they were together before they separated.
James, 56, said there was a particular night she received a call from a strange man who she said was her friend’s husband. He told the court that he later caught them both together.
James said he had been taking care of the children and took a loan to enable her to start her own business.
He said he was forced to take a second wife because of Abeke’s behavior.
After hearing from both parties, the President of the Court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede adjourned the case to January 21, 2015 for judgment.
