Does the Bible fail to define the process for marriage? Join the debate

We all love weddings. Everything from standing for the bride’s entrance to dancing and eating a piece of the wedding cake at the reception, there are very few people who don’t enjoy the warm, inviting presence of love at a wedding.

As a person becomes more intrigued by the Christian faith, many questions are asked. One question that was posed on the Ladies Who Love The Lord Facebook fan page on Tuesday, left many readers scrambling to find the answer to the question. The question is simple: How does the Bible define the marriage process? And it asked responders to provide a citation of the text that supports their answer. We all know that the process of an engagement, a wedding, and signing a marriage license to prove the authenticity of your marriage is man-made. So at what point does God revere your relationship with someone as a marriage?

The question acquired close to 4,000 reads, over 120 “likes”, and approximately 20 comments, but the answer still seems to be missing. Many readers cited scriptures that convey what God defines as a marriage and the sanctity of a marriage (e.g. Genesis 2:24: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”), but very few actually answered the question. Henrietta M., a fan of the Facebook page wrote: “The Bible explains marriage as the joining together of man and his wife, becoming one. Marriage, defined by the heart of God, is a covenant relationship that reflects the great mystery of Christ and His Bride, the church: the Husband lovingly gives himself for the care of his bride, the bride respectfully submitted to her loving husband. Marriage is a union of fidelity that should survive the life of its members. Just as important it reveals marriage as the original foundation of the family unit, children being the Lord’s blessing of heritage. And so much more… Genesis 1 & 2; Matthew 19:5,6; Proverbs 18:22; Psalm 127:3-5; etc

Henrietta’s response seemed to aim more closely at answering the question, but there still is no answer. It is critically important that persons of the Christian faith are able to point to the text in the Bible that concisely defines the process of marriage.
