Pay attention Nigerians, today Donald Trump became the U.S. republican nominee

The United States Republican Party is currently in a state of disarray after Ted Cruz dropped out of the presidential race and Donald Trump won one more state in the primaries – Indiana.

As of now, Trump is the presumptive candidate of the Republican party.

In United States politics, the presumptive nominee is a political candidate who – barring unforeseen events or circumstances – is assured of his or her party’s nomination, but has not yet been formally nominated.

The term is often applied to the candidate who has not yet received the formal nomination of his or her political party at the party’s nominating convention, but who has acquired more than 50% of delegate commitments through the primary elections and caucuses prior to the convention.

Ted Cruz, who’s had a torrid week in the media and polls, had suffered series of losses in the Northeast, in recent time.

Somber and defeated, while basking in the support of his family on Tuesday, Cruz said: “From the beginning I’ve said that I would continue on as long as there was a viable path to victory.”

“Tonight I’m sorry to say it appears that path has been foreclosed.”

“With a heavy heart but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign.”

“The challenges we face today remain as great as ever,” Cruz told his supporters as he suspended the campaign. Americans are deeply frustrated and desperately want to change the path that we’re on.”
