On Wednesday, in the Jere area of Kaduna, a woman was shot dead by an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) in the presence of her children.
The woman was allegedly hit in error as the agent intended to shoot at another target whom was escaping.
The agent missed his shot which hit the woman – who died instantly.
According to an eye witness who spoke to TheCable, “the woman was not their target. The security men flagged down a vehicle, and the driver refused to stop.”
“Immediately they opened fire and a stray bullet hit a woman in a commercial vehicle nearby.”
“The woman died on the spot and her five children who were in the bus with her wept uncontrollably.”
“Her corpse was taken to the Toll Gate at Kakau/Sabon Gayan community. The people who saw the corpse were enraged, and this triggered protests”, the witness added.
The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna state, Adamu Ibrahim confirmed the incident to be true.
He appealed to the residents to remain calm even as he revealed that the agent had already been arrested.
